Howard Schachat

Howard Schachat has been with Protea since 1999 and over that period has overseen operational, legal and certain construction and design projects. Currently, Howard serves as senior vice president and in-house counsel with responsibility for all the group’s legal matters.

Howard Schachat has over 40 years’ experience in real estate design, development, investment, law and management, and earned a commerce degree from the University of Natal and a law degree from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He is an attorney admitted to the Supreme Court, South Africa and for 10 years held the position of senior vice president at Momentum Insurance Group, with the responsibility for developing and managing a portfolio of 85 properties. He was also Managing Director at Retprop Investments, a REIT listed on the Stock Exchange. Howard served as President of the Association of Property Loan Stock Companies and also spent time practicing law in South Africa. He emigrated to the United States in 1997.
